President Xi, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), delivered his speech while addressing the conference held in Beijing from August 21-22.
In his talk, Xi underscored the importance of better fulfilling missions and tasks related to publicity and ideological work under the new circumstances.
Yang Gaimin, president of Taiyuan-based Sanjin City News, said in an interview that all her reporters and editors learned from the remarks made by President Xi at the national conference.

Pei Pei, vice-director of the Department of News Planning at , emphasized that the press should have a deeper understanding of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; take pride in the engagement of international communication so as to explain development path and features of China; keep their professional knowledge and competence continually upgraded; and, help more foreigners learn about Chinese people's sense of fulfillment.
Zhao Min, a reporter from the Henan branch of China News Services, explained that the press should stick to the development path of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics; promote the innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture; present a panoramic view of China to the world; and, further enhance the influence of Chinese culture.
Geng Nuo, a senior journalist from Beijing Daily, said she and her colleagues would consistently serve as bridge between the public and the Party and government, and strengthen the ties between them in the future.
In addition, several journalists from Hunan, Jiangsu and Chongqing noted that they would pay more visits to people at the grassroots level, collect first-hand information from the public, and make their concerns as well as voices heard.
